We have a number of friends, and we are always looking for more!

Spencers Wood Local History Group are essentially a study group rather than a society and our aim is to record and retain as much history as we can about our part of Shinfield because there is so much housing development going on in our locality.

We have published two books (Our Village of Spencers Wood - now sold out; The History of Lambs Lane School 1908-2008 - still available at a cost of £5 plus postage and packing) and are now working on the research for a third - 100 years of Ryeish Green School (anticipated publication date 2010).

The group consists of Margaret Bampton, Jackie Blow, Patricia Green, Lesley Rolph, Sheila Davis, Jeannie Brice and Mary Wheway. Unfortunately we lost one of the original members, Barbara Debney who passed away on 1st July 2008. She is sorely missed.

Future Research Projects will include:-

The enclosure of Spencers Wood needs collating and writing up; the making of a central archive; appealing for more memorabilia for other schools in the area such as, Riseley Common School, Beech Hill School, Grazeley School, Spencers Wood School at the Library as it is now, the United Reform Church which has closed, Three Mile Cross chapel.
